My Review of Book 1:
“Why does God even need us? Why doesn’t he just say ‘Poof’ and the bad guys die? That would be so much easier.”
“That’s the point.” She furrowed her brow. “What’s the point?”
“People need skin in the game. History shows that we don’t appreciate anything we get too easily.”
I love the premise of this story. It’s futuristic and a place where God’s not allowed to the the subject of conversation. Sound like a scary place? You betcha. The author brought the story alive with amazing world building, a harsh social climate, and Rory’s humor in a way that touched my heart. I felt for Rory and only laughed a few times when she was sure she’d be martyred. Yes, a few times, I promise. Her misconception reminded me of how wrong we can be about God’s plan and the way He thinks.
Toward the end I felt like all hope was lost and wanted to ugly cry but i survived and Rory did too lol. I’m ready for book two after reading the first book in a less than two days.
My Review of Book 2:
Just like with the first book in the series, I love the premise of this story. Rory has a time convincing those that didn’t perish on what was once Easter that they should give their hearts to God. She wonders why not all the bad people died after they saw her attempted execution, and while it would’ve been way to easy for that to occur, has had opposition from her attempted hit man, the leaders of other nations, and even those who follow Jesus, such as two very oppositional board members. But what seems to really eat at Rory the most is her new—unwanted—engagement to co-president Dawson Fortis. I love the love story that’s embedded in this post-apocalyptic narrative and while I didn’t feel I had to ugly cry for Rory, I am glad that she and Dawson cleared the air. The author did a great job at offering enough of a recap that both books can be read as standalone, but you will want to read them in order. I would love another book in this series just to check in on Rory and Dawson and see how they’re doing with the Great Commission.
About the Author:
A believer in Jesus Christ, Angela L Gold writes suspenseful stories featuring imperfect characters to let readers know Jesus is with them during their darkest hour. She takes the privilege and responsibility that goes into creating Christian Fiction seriously. Grateful for the opportunity to share hope through Christ in her stories, Angela prays over her writing, studies the Bible, and constantly strives to make each novel better than the last.
Have you ever wondered if you are good enough to call yourself a child of God? Angela L Gold has too. When you find yourself in the midst of a storm, attacked from every side, have you ever questioned if Jesus is really there? She has. Jesus has never failed Angela, and she believes He will never fail you. The characters in her books grapple with these same questions.
Angela and her husband live on the Southern Oregon Coast with their narcissistic Bichon Frise, Kirby.
